BBSRC Funding to support collaboration with, or moves into industry (Call 2)

Are you coming to the end of your PhD or are you an Early Career Researcher who is interested in extending your experience of working with Industry?

BBSRC funding can help you develop a collaborative project, scale up an existing relationship or develop new projects with industry partners through a secondment. The fund also encourages industry partners to second into the University to boost the development of your project and exchange expertise.

Summary details:

  • Innovation Fellowships – Awards of up to £20,000 to enable ECRs to move from UoB into Industry, and into UoB from industry and international institutions. Funding is available for a block of up to 6 months or a series of shorter visits – Funded Awards need to be spent by 31/12/2021. International mobility: 25% of the Innovation Fellowship funding is ring-fenced as part of the Rutherford Fund, to recruit researchers from outside of the United Kingdom (including UK Nationals) to live and work in the UK for the duration of their award. these international researchers can be based at UoB to work on projects which align with the industrial strategy themes.
  • Post PhD Innovation Placements – Awards of up to £15,000 to support talented doctoral students to second into industry following submission of their thesis. Funding is available for up to 3 months and will usually be taken as a block of time – Funded Awards need to be spent by 31/11/2020.
  • Prospective Engagement – Awards of up to £1,000 for short visits to companies in the UK or abroad, to explore secondment and/or collaboration opportunities (post PhD submission and ECR) – Funded Awards need to be spent by 31/12/2021.
  • Skills Development and Training – Awards for ECRs to take up internal or external training opportunities tailored to their development needs, aligned with the industrial strategy themes above – Funded Awards need to be spent by 31/12/2021.
